Two Olympic medalists and an all-time Orange County high school great.
Those were the only swimmers in county history faster in the 100-yard butterfly than Andrew Koustik of Calvary Chapel after his performance Thursday at the Orange Coast League finals at Laguna Beach.
The Texas-bound senior slashed almost three-quarters of a second off his league record to touch first in an eye-popping 47.68 seconds.
Kousik joined Olympian Michael Cavic (county-record 47.13 for Tustin in 2002), Corey Okubo (47.53 for University in 2014) and Olympian Tom Shields (47.55 for Edison in 2009) as the only county swimmers to break the 48-second barrier in the 100 butterfly.
The Irvine Novaquatics club swimmer levied even more damage to his meet record in the 100 breaststroke. Koustik sliced almost 2 ½ seconds off his league record with a county-leading and personal-best 55.15, good for eighth in county history.
Koustik recorded the times after a recent training camp with the U.S. junior national team in Colorado Springs.
His next stop will be the CIF-SS Division 2 prelims Friday, May 11 in Riverside at 9 a.m.
